I have a habit of reading a little too much into adverts. Got to keep yourself occupied during those dull minutes between often almost equally dull programmes on ITV though haven’t you?
Still, this ‘Nice and Easy’ advert from Clairol in particular caught my eye. The story, such that it is, is pretty simple. Woman answers the door to a couple of friends who have got exciting VIP passes to a thing. However, woman checks her hair in the mirror, and it’s crap. How will she ever be able to show her face when her hair’s so crap, she thinks to herself.
But luckily, her friend has bought along some hair dye with her just for this very purpose.
Weird.
I mean, either this friend takes a spare box of hair dye with her whenever she goes out (which presumably takes a bit of explaining when her bag’s searched later at this exciting VIP thing they’re going to), or she turned up at her friend’s house expecting her friend’s hair to be shit. Charming.
Still, the woman in question doesnt breaking down in tears, repeatedly asking her friend whether she’s always though whether her hair is crap, and how long she’s been carrying around that damn box of hair dye, waiting for the opportunity to break the news to her that she looks fucking awful. No. Instead, she just happily pops off into her room and dances around while she dyes her hair, oblivious to the fact that her “friends” wouldn’t been seen dead with her in the state she was in when they turned up at the house.
There are a couple of options as to why she misses out on this obvious slight.
- Perhaps she’s so utterly absorbed with the amazing fact that the foam stuff sticks to her hand so well she can turn it upside down without it falling off. I mean, that is pretty amazing.
- Judging from the size of her arms during the final scene, she might be suffering from severe malnutrition.
I wonder if her and her friends only hang around because they like to be in a complete set of options for Clairol ColourBlend foam?
