Gondolas: 

Although they’re not really a viable way of getting around Venice, since you’d be bankrupt in a couple of days, there are gondolas everywhere. Apparently, there are 500 in Venice now, whereas at their peak there were 10,000. If that was the case, I’m guessing the canals were in a constant state of gridlock, since they’re not far off that point already.
