Thomyk Podcast 111: Exploit →
If you want to hear some opinions about various oscar nominations, difficulties in obtaining photos for Indian visas, and the strangely accepted racism present in news reporting, this is the podcast for you.

Thomyk Podcast 110: Infant →
Another one of our slightly better, ill-planned, meandering podcasts this week. We discuss bringing children into offices, find out about Darren Aronofsky films LIVE ON AIR and have the inevitable technical hitch on Michael’s Macbook.

Stuxnet Worm →
A fascinating article in the New York Times about Stuxnet, the virus that appears to target Iranian nuclear facilities, and has apparently set back their programme by a few years. It’s a story that, somewhere in the heart of it, has a team of geek heroes. That’s pretty cool. There more in the Wired Danger Room blog and on Bruce Schneier’s blog.

Not sure how this had passed me by previously, but a blog in which geeky famous people tell you about all the geeky equipment they use it right up my street.

Jared Lee Loughner and the problem with conspiracy... →
Great post from Dorian Lynskey. Angry, lonely, disempowered young men are especially drawn to conspiracy theories because it makes them feel like vital combatants in an epic struggle. cf. Julian Assange.

Straight Shooter My A$$ →
I love this post on Rush Limbaugh’s billboard declaring he’s a ‘Straight Shooter’ which was until recently posted near where Gabby Giffords was shot last week: “But there’s more reason to be outraged: this is what a “straight shooter” is in America these days? Look at that shot group! You’ve got six or seven rounds in the center, but spaced...

Things that still annoy me about iTunes
iTunes turned a whole decade old four days ago. During that time, I don’t think there’s been any program I’ve shouted at more. For all of its handy features, it’s one of the most infuriatingly annoying, buggy, clunky programs that Apple have ever made. Even today it’s packed fit to bursting with features that don’t quite work, or hang, or crash your computer....

Thomyk 109: WikiLeaks →
As the title would suggest, there’s much blathering about Wikileaks, although I also recap on my problems with Clairol’s advertising campaigns and talk rather aimlessly about some films I saw, whilst making something out of Lego at the same time. Will the wonders never cease?

Merlin Mann on Dan Benjamin's The Pipeline →
I don’t know what it is about Merlin Mann that I really like. Partly I think it’s the fact he makes a lot of sense, and he’s funny, but I think what really gets me is his deep understanding about the interconnectedness of things. Like Dirk Gently. He’s like email’s Dirk Gently. This is a good interview with him by Dan Benjamin of The Talk Show fame.

Vanity Fair profile of Julian Assange →
Fascinating read. Especially the backstage shananigans between The Guardian and Assange. I do love the fact he threatened to sue them because he thought the information belonged to him. That would have been some court case.

Boing Boing on Harlan Ellison's claims about The... →
There’s a great little slap in the face at the end of Rob Beschizza’s post: Ellison’s actually done the world a favor here. I love his work, and like many SF readers feel vindication in the modern appreciation of his literary merits. But his new comparison finally cleared something up for me: just how differently a good writer and a great one express similar ideas. Amen to...
