"As Andrew Simms, policy director of the New Economics Foundation, puts it: "This is to finance-driven capitalism what 1989 was to Soviet communism." In both cases, too much unaccountable power had concentrated in too few hands, with too little transparency, as those in charge lived in a financial fantasy land, playing with numbers wholly detached from productive economic activity." I'd love to see some of the things he suggest happen, but I'm really not so sure it's likely.

Reading the current Nobel Prize winner for Economics proclaim Gordon Brown's talents is a little weird, but should really be unsurprising. It was difficult to pin down exactly what he'd done wrong when everyone was proclaiming him to be the anti-christ. Let's hope his well-thought-through and currently widely-copied deal works.
