I came across Beirut plundering my neighbours’ music in Last.Fm. They (or, I think more correctly, he) makes beautiful Eastern European influenced music that I’ve been getting steadily more addicted to over the last few days.
It’s nice to see that a director has made a video that matches the beauty of the music using snippets of super 8 films.
I think this is the song that I’d have liked to have seen reworked at Princess Diana’s funeral rather than the atrocity that was Candle In The Wind.
Could three better words be combined than the confluence of Ghostbusters, Steampunk and Lego? I think not. More of graznador’s work here.

One for the V for Vendetta fans out there. I adore the comic, but have a love/hate relationship with the film, which is good, but not quite good enough.
I hadn’t seen this sketch for years. It still feels like rather a shame to me that he uses his considerable talents making Mr Bean, but then I guess a lot of other people really like it.
Anyway this is one of his best sketches from his pre-Blackadder days in my opinion.
I’m much more of a fan of Panda Bear’s solo material than I am of Animal Collective as a whole, I’ve come to realise. This is one of the best tracks off Person Pitch, which itself is a great album.
Overall Panda Bear ends up sounding like the Beach Boys being performed by Sigur Ros, and is a lot more engaging that Animal Collective’s full band stuff, much as I like it.
This is actually close enough to the real thing that it’s almost believable.

I’ve been enjoying the Little People blog for quite a while now. In the beginning it was made entirely of tiny model people put in places around different cities. As time’s gone on, more and more have been art installations in proper galleries.
I think this new installation is the largest I’ve seen from Slinkachu (although, by necessity, it’s still pretty small) and it’s great. I love the way the human and model scales interact with each other.
There’s a lot of apocalyptic Lego models kicking around the blog-o-tubes at the moment. I’m not sure what that tells you about the average AFOL. Best not to ask probably.
This from Legohaulic is a particularly fine example. There’s a whole pool of them here.
This is one of the most impressive Lego MOCs I’ve seen in some time. And wonderfully dark and a bit scary.
Also full of many, many grey 2×1 bricks.
More of his pictures (many of which are equally as wonderful) here
We went to see Sonic Youth on Thursday at the Roundhouse in Camden. They were playing all of Daydream Nation as part of the Don’t Look Back series of concerts.
I’m not going to do a full review, but they were utterly mesmerising, helped by the fact that the Camden Roundhouse is one of my favourite venues because you can skirt around the edge of the crowd, getting great views almost everywhere.
You can see all of my pics of the night here.
